Research and development

Thor will develop a strong technology R&D portfolio to stimulate economic innovation and to position Genk as a key contributor to the ELAt zone (Eindhoven, Louvain and Aachen triangle), a top technology area with over 6 million inhabitants, hundreds of top technology companies, prestigious universities, and research centres. Expenditure for research and development within the ELAt area exceeds 4 billion € per year.

The development force is confirmed and strengthened by:

  1. The strong partnership with international knowledge and research institutes like Leuven R&D, Association KU Leuven, Association Hasselt University, Imec and Vito.
  2. The contribution of the LRM-investment company. As an impact driven investment company, LRM is the catalyst for the transition of Limburg’s production economy towards an innovative and technological economy. At Thor, LRM is both developer (infrastructure) as provider of venture capital.
  3. The various PPP-structures (Private Public Partnership): MoThor, IncubaThor, Holding Science Park Waterschei, ...
  4. The holding Science Park Waterschei, in which KU Leuven, LRM and the city of Genk actively steer the implementation and development of the science park.
  5. Thor offers direct access to the research centre EnergyVille, where high-quality lab infrastructure is available at commercially interesting prices.
